Welcome to my website, PittsburghPiper.

I chose this name because I love Pittsburgh and its environs and have enjoyed more than thirty years of playing the pipes for many audiences, friends, and families in this wonderful region.

The Bagpipe is my instrument of choice because it stirs my heart, like it has stirred so many other hearts over the past thousand years or so. Its music invokes many feelings so very basic to the human nature, from festive joyfulness to steadfast determination to mournful sorrow and pathos. It carries musical messages and themes that have served to celebrate community events for centuries. It brings us memories of times past to the fore, and helps us to suspend our daily routine as it heralds tradition and community celebrations of special events. It was held in very high esteem by many of this country's forefathers who came from Ireland and Scotland, and its melodies comprise a major component of what has today come to be regarded as traditional American music. As such, the bagpipe can tell us something about who we are.
